Thoughts on Incubator Project

I have been coming up with a project for building an incubator and I would like thoughts on it. The outside will be 3/4" MDF or something along those lines. Then there will be 1/2 foam board insulation inside and then 1/4" Tempered hardboard on that. I am providing a pic of what I have come up with so far. It will hold 10 6qt tubs. I am not finished drawing it up but if you would like other pics of it just let me know and if it looks like it would be a good idea I will finish up with the drawing and keep this thread posted on my progress. It just sounds like a lot of work when you can just pick up a broken fridge/freezer. :) I'm not familiar with the materials, but I would wonder how well the insulation would hold temps.

I would pick up a broken/used fridge/freezer. I picked up a glass door mini fridge on craigslist for $30 bucks. And it still works until I'm ready to convert it over. All you need is the thermostat, heat tape, fan, and fridge. Most of the "bigger" mini fridges will hold about 6 six quart tubs. It seems like a lot less hassle then trying to build one, and there have been plenty of people on here who have used them, so you know they work pretty well. Just my opinion though, I would be worried that building your own might not be completely sealed and you could have fluctuating temps. Browse craigslist and see what you can find, also check out youtube and some other people DIY incubators of the small fridge type. Keep us posted! Good Luck

Short of finding a true cooler type fridge I'm sure building one like described would work just fine.
It's not like true coolers are stuffed full of insulation because they aren't.

I bought true coolers to use because they are fairly easy to find in my area but if they weren't I'd probably build one similar to this description.

Biggest thing with your design is to remember to have plenty of airflow. With such a tall design, you risk having a dramatic temperature gradient, that you will need to combat :)
