1) Me! Though I usually turn them off in the summer.
2) Nope
3) Ambient temps and cold side stay about 79/80 with a slight night drop since it's colder right now. They're in the snake room that's heated to those degrees.
4) We keep it warm enough, I would think a space heater on a thermostat would work though.
Re: Use UTH with Colubrids?
Daybreaker, you always have info I can use. Ty. :)
Re: Use UTH with Colubrids?
Well number one it does depends on the colubrid, not all colubrids have the same heat requirements, Hognose Snakes for example need a higher hot spot than Kings or Milk etc, you need to know what the requirements of your animals are.

I currently do but I have also kept colubrids with no hot spot, in that case the ambient temps is higher than the one provided when offering a hot spot.

Ambient temps is about 74 and hot spot about 84 (those are for Bulls, Honduran Milks, Texas Rat Snakes, Cali and Brooks Kings)

I would provide adequate ambient temps with a oil filled heater or additional UTH and thermostat depending on the size of the collection.

ty for any answers.
1. No, but I use heat tape, so it's kinda similar.
2. Nope.
3. Ambient: 73-75 Hot spot: 83-86 Cool side: 73-75
4. My room can drop below 70 but the cool side in my tubs usually doesn't drop that low. In fact I haven't seen it below that temp. I don't open the tubs that often.
And this is for corns.

Deb and Andrew, thanks for the replies. Your info has been most informative.
There may be some project/purchase planning to do in my near future. :D
Re: Use UTH with Colubrids?
I'm new around here but wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I keep a yearling mountain king in a 10gal glass tank with a heat pad and foam back and side covers to help insulate and keep him feeling secure.
Anyway, I keep the cool end at or slightly above the room temp 69-71 and I keep the warm side between 79-82. I use a low watt red night light for two periods during the night for viewing. As well, the red light keeps the night temp drop from going below 67-68. Obviously this is a montane breed of colubrid and it thrives in lower temps. However, with just some supplemental ambient room heat I could keep another type of colubrid at warmer temps.
Re: Use UTH with Colubrids?
I forgot to mention that my UTH mat is regulated with a thermostat, so to keep other warmer colubrids you'd also have to raise the stats. upper setting.
