Possible RI and breeding

One of the females that I have been breeding, I just noticed yesterday, she might be showing signs of an RI coming on. I transfered her to a rack where the temps are a few degrees warmer than my female breeder rack. My question is, will the increased temps have a negative effect on breeding? I should say she has not ovied yet. Im going to give it a bit before I pair her again and see if symptoms subside. My second question is, if I have to give her anti biotics to treat the RI, will that pretty much do her in for the season?

My vet told me several times that Baytril can compromise the follicle growth.
If you believe the snake has an RI then you should be making a vet appointment :gj:

im sorry but breeding is the last thing you should be concerned with if you suspect an RI! unless you have money to just throw away on replacing your collection or a vet trip for them all. then that animal and any she has been in contact with needs to go straight to quarintine! you can still breed in qt but I dont recomend it if she is sick. RI's are contagious so get them seperated immediately! good luck.

Yes I know the whole get her to the vet spiel, dont need to hear it, but I suppose I should have anticipated that response. I have antibiotics and my 'vet' (the local snake expert even the vet for the zoo sends you too, also my breeding partner) already looked at her last night, said to warm her up and take it from there. I am keeping a close eye, I have antibiotics and needles on hand. If I need to get a culture I will not an issue, so at this point, yes breeding is my next concern, I just want to know if the warming up will affect it, and I had heard antibiotics can hurt follicle growth I was just looking for any first hand experience on the matter. The only male she has been with, which the last time was two weeks ago, is perfectly fine.

The first comment is a culture must be done BEFORE antibiotics after they have been given result is biased results and 3 months must pass before it can be re-tested. You'll forgive me but n 'expert' should have mentioned this little tidbit of knowledge.

Snakes have an extremely slow metabolism, the proof, humans digest food in an hour, snakes 24+. The time it takes drugs to work and be effective is far longer (usually just starting at what would be the end of a human cycle). I would suggest that a breeding a sick snake places that snake in harms way. There is a better chance for a re-lapse/ complications. The question is how long I would figure at least twice the time for a often recommended drug cycle, so 3 months maybe more just to be safe.

Ok i get it, and again my question is not how to properly treat an RI, IF it is even one. Thank you for the input on that seems everyone is stuck on that and not answering my question. That being said my question was will the antibiotics, should I decide necessary have a negative effect on either follicles or for my knowldge, on fertalized eggs? And will the increases temps do anything negative?

Your expert that even the zoos vet sends everyone to (your breeding partner) am I correct on how I read that? should be able to answer that question for you. Sounds like you've got everything covered so at this point its just a preference on how to care for our animals. I've personally never tried to breed anything that I felt wasnt in perfect health or on medication. So cant answer that for you. As for the temperature change i'm not sure but it shouldnt. I dont cool my balls for breeding as it isnt needed. I maintain my reptile room at 78-80 degrees all year long. with belly heat hot spot at 93. I dont have any problems breeding like this. Yes you read that correct. I have 2 projects with him, unrelated to the animal in question here. And yes the herp vet for the nürnberg zoo sends people with snake issues to him. I know this first hand, and they have a working relationship. Unfortunately he did not have an answer for me hence why I came here. I will play this out and see what happens. For the record I never intended of continuing to pair her unless I am sure she is healthy. The questions were related to the fact that she has been paired and I wanted to know what complications if any I might run in to. Thank you.

1st her health is most important, if you really want to push it then F10 fog her twice a day till the RI clears up.
2nd this is the reason I don't lower temps EVER, it is not needed and will cause problems if not don't properly,
3rd the temps will not cause problems with the follicle grow but more than likely the stress will cause her to reabsorb them

I dont see what you mean by being "that guy". I only lower ambient temps as I control the rooms temperature. I do not touch the hotspot although with lower ambient everything cools a bit.
