Are those as dangerous as they look???

When I see those things, I can really relate to people's automatic aversion and fear of snakes. It may not be logical, but I can still relate. :?

The one on top "supposedly" is very venomous.

The second one, is much larger and the venom is much milder as is the temperment. Emperor Scorpions are perfect for beginners. They get big (some up to 6 or 7 inches long) and are pretty docile. You can usually handle them without any problems. Incidentally, this scorpion is really black to the naked eye. But they do a very unique thing in certain light. If you hit them with a flash, they look blue/green (as seen above). If you hit them with a blacklight, they glow. If you put them in direct sunlight, they look kind of jade green.

Thats a good observation on making other people's automatic fear of snakes easier to appreciate, comparing to our reaction to these critters.

I just don't feel like anything venomous is something I'd like to keep as a pet. I appreciate them for what they are, but pictures are about as much contact with them as I can bear...

I respect your interest in keeping Scorpions, but like most, I have the irrational fear thing going on in my head. Also, just knowing it can sting me and be potentially hazardous to my health is enough to keep me from wanting them as a pet. Besides, they really do creep me out!! Even though they are not insects (I believe they belong to the Arachnid family, is that correct?), they still look too 'buggy' to me!! All the more power to ya'! Kewl pictures though.
