    Price and night time questions.
I'm curious about the average going price for Clowns and Pieds these days.

Also, do you keep your snakes in pitch black at night? Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, clowns are starting around $1000 still and I've seen a regular female pied as low as $750 this season. And yes. The only light she gets at night is what's coming off the front of her herpstat. They're nocturnal, keeping a light on them at night is pointless.

Yes, they are nocturnal.. Was just considering the street light that very dimly lights part of the room.

ive kept snakes in many different houses with varying amounts of ambient light and even had some with night lights for heat. i really havent noticed any difference in how the behave other than very few that i've seen that were kept in day time light 24/7 for extended periods of time. Those seem to be a little nervous and poor feeders. no actual scientific data to back any of this up just my opinions and observations.

Clowns are around $650 to $750 for males on average, pieds are $400 the $550 on average for males.
They are nocturnal, they don't need light, but they do fine if the room isn't pitch black also.

May I ask where you have seen Clown and Pied males for those prices?! Individual breeder or possibly a reptile expo?

I feed mine in basically pitch black, except last time. Tried to film the feeding but the batteries in my camera died. He has never refused a rat! (knocks on wood)

Jerry's prices are pretty spot on, you just have to browse the classifieds. Kingsnake.com, FaunaClassifieds.com and our for sale section here on BP.net.
You will also see similar priced animals at shows.

Great! Just planning for a somewhat distant future purchase. Last show I attended the cheapest Clown that I personally saw was $1800... I'm skilled in the art of haggling, but was not in the market for a new snake...just yet. Those prices can keep on dropping, imo! :D
