My sons new ball seems to be adjusting well. Got him Wednesday and he ate today. He loves his hides, they are identical exo terra medium size. However he is large enough where when inside them the hides rest on top of him! Looks like a snake turtle. I removed them and put in shoebox hides I cut down a bit, he likes those too. My six year old who owns the snake doesn't care for the reebok boxes in his tank. Any suggestions on better hides or is he ok?

I use flower pots (less tall, broader ones) placed upside-down as my hides!

I just smashed a bigger hole into the tops (and sanded the wholes down so it is completely smooth), et voila!

I know his head looks small, but he actually has to squeeze his fat body into that hole!

Thanks that a great idea, I was thinking about the reptile basics hides. But I like what you are doing.

Look at the Sterilite dish tubs. $2-$3 per hide. Flip it upside down and cut a hole.

They have a few different sizes. If you want a more snug fit, just cut it shorter.
You can cut through it pretty easy with some snips or heavy duty scissors.

These are pretty good for the natural loo, but not real cheap. I have never used these hides but have other products from them and they have all been well make.

Many of use use the Reptile Basics hides. They are affordable and easy to clean.

Thanks, I think I'll try reptile basics.

Your snake probably loves the hides that turn him into a snake turtle!

There are tons of options. Reptile Basics black hides are some of the least expensive hides out there, and if you want nicer looking hides you can use cork rounds, cork flats, or even up to fake rock hides (which do tend to be the priciest).

I am pretty fond of using cork flats stacked on each other as hides, as 2 or 3 large sized pieces stacked on each other provide multiple hiding places that look nice and naturalistic for the least amount of money. :) You can wedge moss into the gaps to make them more secluded and enclosed for the snakes as well.

I'd link you to products on our website, but I get in trouble with the mods when I do that :)

Here's a video with some of the things I described - the cork pieces I'm describing are shapes of a type of wood...cork. Fake rocks are types of caves, also products we carry.

I just wanted to add, some ball pythons LIKE being snake turtles. A couple of mine in fact have so far outgrown their hides it's more like a snake hat, but if give them a bigger one they pitch a fit. Ball pythons are weird that way.

I use mainly plastic cereal bowls and plastic beverage tubs from the dollar store. they come in a wide range of colors and sizes, and they are cheap.
