As promised pics of a male Black Blood my son bought this past weekend at the Northern VA Reptile Expo. This dude is sweet looking and has an outstanding temperment and is appx 18".

Very nice Smulkin, I can assure you that your gonna enjoy that snake a whole lot. Lotta personality albeit a tad lazy while in the cage but super alert, and one heluva feeding response. Enjoy!

( note to self: borrow that digi camera and post pics this weekend)

Very nice! Yours is much darker than my female. Don't you just love their eyes? :D

My 5 year old was awed and amazed, he thought it was really cool. I thought it was beautiful. I hope one day that the kids will ask for herps instead of toys, lol.

Thanks all! Yep David - the eyes is what got his focus on it - dunno if it is a perception based on those eyes or something more substantive but bloods sure do seem a lot more intent on their surroundings (lock that gaze on it) than other snakes. Hell maybe it is just that high-contrast.

Its definitely there awareness, although that high contrast enhances it even more. Just move around his enclosure sometime when hes got his head hanging out of his hide and watch those pretty eyes shift as he follows your movements. Ive noticed that the only times I catch mine off gaurd is when he's fully retreated inside his hide, than I know hes catching some serious z's.Keep us updated on your experience with him. :P
