    Possibly new pick up
    So its that time to get another snake to build up my collection. But i hae a few questions. I would like to breed down the road possibly to try it out. I am looking at a bci. There is a male and female. Both anery 100%het snow.

    Here are my questions.

    What exactly does 100% het mean? Will i get snows when i breed?

    should i go for the male or female first? I plan on buying its partner a year down the road.

    It means it is heterozygous(Aa) for that gene. For recessive genes to physically show they need to be homozygous (aa) for the recessive gene.

    So lets use "a" to represent the gene for albinism. For a snake to actually show albinism it must be homozygous or (aa) but if its 100% het it would be (Aa).

    100% her anery snow means that it is for sure het for that specific gene(Aa). But if you bred that to another that is her for anery snow then there is only a 66% chance that it is get for that gene. (The 66% was a random number I picked for the example)
    Any other questions?

    100% het means that one of the parents was a visual snow and the offspring carry 1/2 of the genes needed to produce the visual affect. snow is a double recessive mutation. albino and anery. add the co-dominant hypo gene to that combo and make moonglows. if you breed 1.1 anery 100% het albino (a.k.a anery 100% het for snow) you will get all anerys. 50% of them should be snow and the other 50% will be anery and have a 66% chance of being het for albino. There is way more technicial explanation but this is the non-nerd explanation. if you need the geek version i'd suggest going to vmsherp.com and look in the learning center. they have genetics explained in way more detail. even will teach you how to do multi gene punnet squares to figure your out comes from breeding. If you are thinking about breeding in the future i'd suggest getting that anery het snow female this year and a snow male next year. that way the female has an extra year of growth, they will mature about the same time, and you will get snows, and anerys 100% het snow instead of the non snows only having a 66% chance for het. 100% bring more money and are easier to move than possible hets. Honestly i'd probably buy a female ghost 100% het albino (a.k.a tripple het moonglow) and a snow male next year. then you got a shot at ghost het snow, snows, moonglows all from the same clutch. I think thats correct. lol if its not then i'm sure someone else will step in and correct whatever i messed up. lol I'm fairly new to boa morphs.

    so say i get one of these anery 100% het snow and breed it to say a sunglow. would i get any snows, and sunglows or would they all be anery? I guess it really donesnt matter since i dont plan on breeding for money just to see it done first hand and pass a few snakes along or keep a few.

    You would not get Snows in that case.

    Sunglow = Albino + Hypo

    Snow = Anery + Albino

    You would be doing Anery het Albino (het Snow) X Hypo Albino (Sunglow)

    So everything would look Albino or Normal, and all would be 100% het Anery and 50% possible hey Hypo

    I think that is correct...

    Almost. Hypo is a co-dom trait in boas not recessive like balls. So they would be normals 100% het anery and 100% het albino(double het snow), Albinos 100% het anery, sunglows 100% het anery (triple het moonglow), and hypos 100% het albino and 100% het anery. I think that's all the possible out comes.

    Well there you go. Thank you for clearing that up for me too!

    Assuming both are the same line of albino.:thumbup:

    Ahhh yea I forgot about that. Kinda assumed everyone knew that. There's the kahl line albino and sharp line and t+ none of which are compatible. So make sure you figure put what line you want to work with and keep them seperate from other lines. But there's a morph that is a visual het that's called a paradime? (think that's what its called) That's het sharp and het t+ but that's a whole another subject.

    You're learning my friend:gj: It's called a Paradigm which is a double het for albino and caramel.
