Hey, thanks for your replies and concern. I have a 35gal aquarium. Heating lamp, heating pad for under the tank, I plan on using news paper or paper towls because I hear its easier to clean. I can easily make a good hide also. And I have 2 books on taking care of ball pythons and like 5-6 ball pythons websites bookmarked :) Im serious about owning/taking care of one. I just want a good price on a baby.

You know, for about 10 years I've wanted to own a python. this lady that lived next door when I was younger owned probably 10 snakes, HUGE and small. I remember this one she had was probably 10 feet or better, AWESOME beautiful creatures they are.

Im stable and mature enough to raise and care for one just as if it were my child. Infact, I think even if its a boy I am going to name it "Fiona" because thats my favorite name in the world and me and my Fiance are naming our daughter that as well.

So dont worry about where my head is guys, I'll do just fine. Keep the comments and advice coming though, the more the better, thank you for having me here also.

What does your fiance think about having a snake. My wife thought they were gross at first but now we have 2 and the baby is hers. And now she cant wait till the next reptile swap meet so we can buy 2 girls. The greatest thing is that you can keep them in plastic containers and they absolutely love it.

Do you want your snake and daughter to have the same name? I'd save your favorite name in the whole world for your child! of course my opinion may be different than yours. Good luck

Oh yeah I'll name the snake Fiona without a doubt. and Amy (my fiance) she's scared of snakes but she did admit that the ball python I showed her was "cute" in a strange way haha. She'll come around and do ok.

well welcome to the forum and good choice on the ball python they are a great species of snake(although its kinda hard to type when they crawl all over you keyboard while your trying to type) the best place to buy one is at a herp show because you can meet the breeder and usually get sex well at least you have a better chance.

Glad to hear you are going into this prepared. Alex Hue is one of the least expensive reliable sources of baby ball pythons, and he would be high on my list of possible sources. Also, as Daft already mentioned, a herp show or reptile show offers inexpensive snakes without shipping costs and an opportunity to examine it for mites, scars, dehydration, etc. before purchasing.
