Question about Retics

Just out of complete curiosity and because no book I've read has answered this...

What is the size difference between a dwarf Retic and a super dwarf??

Are dwarf retics already smaller then non-dwarfs?

From what I've seen and heard. A dwarf retic can still reach 13-15 feet. A super dwarf more typically reaches 6-8 feet. Quite a big difference, It's hard to find full 100% super dwarfs though. Most are being held back to ensure their size, and that they are indeed 100% super dwarfs. In a few years they'll be more readily available.

Super dwarf are locale specific and in that are locale specific to size. Kalatoa is the only true super dwarf we know of. There are many others out there but they do achieve larger sizes (think honey island at 8ft pure vs 6' of a pure kalatoa female). Then there's kaydui which was originally thought to be super dwarf but they can achieve 9' in females that's getting more dwarf!

Dwarf locales include Jampea (8-10' with some extremes). Seslayar 10-12' and Bali which is yellow headed (14-16')

There are many other locales out there these are the main ones you will find in the hobby. Things to note!!

Anery is only found pure in Kalatoa and Jampea locales.

Genetic Stripe originated in he seslayar locales.

Any other morph you see as "dwarf or super dwarf" is going to be a % SD or dwarf. These crosses can get very large dependent on feeding amount which a happy Retic is a fed Retic who is not obese! For example my 50% Kalatoa Tiger is just under 9' as a male. My male Anery pure kalatoa is just over 4' at around 2 years old now and as thick as a corn snake pounding a small rat every 4-8 days.

Also pure SD are readily available from trusted breeders. Travis Kubes and Matthew Martin both work with Pure lines.

I assume by locales you mean the regions in which they are found...islands right?

Similar to the regions of ATBs or GTPs (obviously in different geographic regions of the world from retics)

Yeah, locales are specific to islands. Island ecology allows for rapid evolution of a species. This is how we have come to have smaller retics from the mainland.

Yeah just wanted to double check....I know some locales are simply far geographic regions on the same continent as opposed to actually physically separated islands....


Kinda like that "hobbit" human, homo floresiensis, they discovered on the island of Flores in Indonesia.
