Hissy must have pooped in her warm hide at some point last nite. I did not look in there because the only time she had ever pooped before was while she was shedding. So, it sat in there for a good what i would have to imagine is 18 hours or so. I was wonderin why she had spent all day in her cool hide but i don't generally concern myself with her thermoregulation practices. Anyhow, the point is, since the poop sat on the basking spot for 18 hours or so, the smell is difficult to get rid of, particularly in the ceramic hide it was sitting inside of. I have washed the hide like six times in anti-bac dish soap & i now have it soaking in hot dish soapy water. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get rid of this smell from the hide??

lol.....I've had that happen before. As long as the hide is clean, the smell doesn't really matter IMO.

It'll dissipate. Just give it a little time. :)

I throw the water bowl in the dishwasher sometimes just to make sure its real clean. Just gotta be careful its dishwasher safe, and most materials are. I would think you could do the same with one of the hides. Just make sure it isn't on a heat dry setting or whatever.

You could soak it in a 10% bleach solution. Just make sure it's completely dry and all the chlorine smell has dissipated before putting it back in. But like Marla said...the original stinky smell will fade in time anyhow.

They're all good suggestions I'd go with the bleach solution if you really wanna just get rid of the smell. If it doesn't bother you then just leave it to time.

This has happend to me and what i did is put the hide in an air tight container like a tupperware with no holes LOL. and put one of those baking soda boxes in there and let it sit for like 12 hours. Then put baking soda on the hide and leave it. The smell should go away if it doesnt its time for a new hide.

What I did was, after washin the hide a billion times, i let it soak for a good few hours in some apple scented anti-bac dish soap. Then, right before i went to bed, I took it out & let it dry right next to an open window to get some fresh air on it. The smell, I am HAPPY to say, is all gone!

just remember that if you soak in bleach that you rinse rinse rinse, the best you can.
