    BP basking question
    Hey,

So i understand that ball pythons are nocturnal but I saw my friends bp and he comes out a lot and basks etc.
My bp is 6months old and hides out all day and only comes out at 2am. I have a heat lamp and have the humidity and temp. perfect throughout the tank. I have a basking branch and lots of different hides. For background info, she use to come out and roam a lot more. She has already had her shed and both before and after the shed she was like this. Now i am wondering is it because she is younger or not happy in the tank? She use to come out at about 5pm and roam and chill and now she never does and i don't understand it. Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks :)

A hiding ball is a happy ball, they say. My boy often stays hidden for several days, particularly after feeding. How big is your snake, and how large is its enclosure? I know my boy will become more active as he finishes digesting and gets hungrier, and goes into hiding again as he prepares to shed.

Yah when she eats she always hides after and i understand that but she has had this tank for a couple months now and she use to roam in it and now she doesn't. She is 2ft 7.71" and 274g. Ever since December she barely comes out and before that she was so active

In the winter, lots of balls go into a hibernation of sorts. As long as she's eating well for you still, I wouldn't worry. If she starts losing more than a couple tens of grams, that's when you should worry. She knows what she's doing, and as long as you provide her with lots of places to cram herself and fresh water and food, she should be just fine. She may pick activity up again around March.

A healthy, striving, stress free BP will spend 80% of it's time hiding, when a ball python is active this mean there is an issue.

BP are not active snakes they remain hidden most of the time, your BP's behavior is normal and how it should be. :gj:
