live plants in ball setup?

So my boyfriend just got into ball pythons. He is now obsessed with the baby I got him. He wants to do live plants in her tank.
My question is, is is possible to do a living setup for a ball? If so what type of substrate should be used and what plants?

I have heard ppl mention this.. Not sure what I could tell u about which ones.. But apparently live plants will help keep humidity

It is possible, but since they are heavy bodied snakes, they tend to smush most plants. I personally am not going to do a living display setup for a ball python simply because they prefer to hide so I would never see them! I'd rather spend time making an enclosure look really nice for an arboreal species that I could actually look at amongst the beautiful plants.

Live setups are a lot harder to clean. just my .02

There are a couple of different ideas with live just placing pots in the enclosure (often hydroponic) or bioactive. Bioactive is lowest amount of effort to clean just pick out solids and you are done. Pots offer a bit more effort cleaning wise. bioactive are fairly hard to balance much like a closed system aquarium. The best starting point is the book
