I need reasons.... Need your input
I am married with 4 kids all under the age of 9...my wife was initially terrified of the thought of me and my boys getting a snake. We now have a corn and two ball pythons. I am dying to get a red tail boa but she is so afraid of their size and given we have small children...i have been lobbying pretty hard but to no avail! I told her that the Columbian males don't get that big but she thinks I am lying to her :)

I need some good points to help convince the wife...

We have a red tail boa for over a year. They take forever to grow. I think if you get a baby. It'll take 4-5 years to get to size anyways.

You may also want to consider a smaller locale as well. I've heard Hog Islands and Costa Ricans stay on the smaller side?

~ Most boas are very docile, all of my three Colombians (spelled with a "o" BTW) are very well mannered and have never struck or bit me. Start with a baby and grow with it, babies aren't intimidating at all.

~ A male Colombian *should be just fine in a 4' vivarium, and it actuality it doesn't take up that much space. My male (a little over 6' last time measured) fits fine so far in a 4' vivarium. Most Colombian males stay between 5-6' with both smaller and larger exceptions.

~ Adults can be fed every 2 weeks and babies every 7 days. Not that expensive to feed, especially if you buy f/t in bulk.

Here's two older pics of my male Colombian (he's grown a bit since these were taken) but you can see he's not huge (he was a little over 2 years old in this pic and big for his age IMO). They're not hard snakes to handle, and if starting with a baby your family can learn to handle it as it grows into a sub-adult/adult:

I have a 9 year old, and two BCI's. She LOVES them. They are very docile, curious creatures. To reassure your wife, just get a nice secure enclosure. And males tend to stay smaller. He's just a baby in this picture, but show her how sweet he is! (Those are my daughters toes)

And he really is the most mellow little laid back dude. Boas are awesome, good luck!
