Youngest breedable female?
Hey
I am in no way a supporter of extreme powerfeeding. But I was thinking it would be interesting to know if anyone has succesfully bred a very young female bp. Again, I want to make clear that im not trying to start a contest or promote overfeeding, I just think it would be interested to hear peoples experiences:)
So please post the age and weight of your young females that laid viable clutches!
Re: Youngest breedable female?
I don't do this, but I know someone who bred a 1 year old @ 1000g successfully. She laid a viable clutch that hatched fine.

Re: Youngest breedable female?
I have one that I started pairing at 18 months at 1,800ish grams, laid at 22 months...fed on a fairly conservative schedule, just grew like a weed.

^ This. My lemonblast laid 7 perfect eggs. On the flip side, I bred a 4-year old normal (1200g) that only laid three her first year. It's a combination of size and age, not one or the other.
Re: Youngest breedable female?
Dunno if this applies to the thread but my friend has 07 pastel female thats in the upper 700 grams and lays 3 eggs consistantly every year. This past fall I bred a late 09 that just over 1000 grams when I started pairing her. She laid 4 big healthy eggs and they hatched this past weekend.

Re: Youngest breedable female?
My youngest/smallest was a ...20 month? Slightly less than 2 y/o spider female that I hadn't realized had actually locked up with the male - he wasn't a very good breeder that year and I only saw him lock up once with another female. She didn't have a huge noticeable ovulation, never got super huge, but one day I came home and she was sitting on a clutch of 7 huge eggs. At the time she was about 1200 grams, and I skipped breeding her the next season to ensure she bulked back up.
