Confused
I've seen all three of my females lock numerous times and appeared to be building. They are eating machines even coming out of the tub after the rats before I can get the rat in, bowl wrapping
glowing and getting fat as can be. But no ovy yesterday one refused to eat but she is about to shed.

Re: Confused
I don't understand what you are confused about?
That all sounds perfectly normal to me.

Miles, I think you're just in a bigger hurry than your girls are. They sound like they're progressing perfectly. :)

Re: Confused
I guess I just thought they would go off feeding or something. Its like they were building and then now its stopped. They are eating like crazy and getting fat but no ovy I guess this process lasts longer than I expected and I just want to make sure I don't do something wrong. Y'all try to be patient with me I'm trying not to be too annoying Im just excited and worried I'm gonna do something wrong. I'll be better next year I promise.

You're not the only one so don't feel bad. It's my first year breeding bps also and waiting is the hardest part. Since pairing my guys, I've been checking on them 2-3 times a day (probably more but who's counting?). My girl's been eating like crazy as well as my male. Luckily, after breeding corns for so long, I realize it takes time but that doesn't make it any less exciting or worrisome, especially with a species that's new to me. Just hang in there and let them do their thing. :)

Thanks for the encouraging words I'm just gonna enjoy my snakes and when something happens I'll deal with it then. This is very exciting though and so interesting watching all this happen. I probably will be freaking out when I'm waiting for the eggs to hatch.Lol.

Don't feel bad. My first good season, I had four females going at the same time. I was a wreck. I was obsessed with building, glowing, feeding, it was pitiful. I saw an ovy, and I was sooo excited. Then I waited and waited for her prelay shed, but it never happened. I got so worried something was wrong. I checked her about 12 times a day. She just bowl wrapped and layed inverted and that was all. She kept locking too, and I thought that didn't happen after they had ovy. I was a complete mess. Then one morning, I checked her and wondered who fed her a watermelon overnight! You guessed it, my supposed ovy was nothing of the kind.
So try to be patient, the girls will do things in their own time, despite they grey hairs and chewed fingernails they give you in the meantime.

If you think it's bad now, just wait until day 50 something during incubation. You'll find yourself checking on and staring at eggs, swearing you see a slit in one only to realize that you're seeing things. I've been breeding snakes since 2003 and I still do that. It's the best time of the year but pretty sure it's also why I have so many grey hairs at 30...
Gale, I know what you mean about the grey hair and fingernails... ;)

Re: Confused
This is my first season breeding too. I bought a possibly gravid female (she'd been paired with a black pastel multiple times) and then I've got a pastel on breeding loan. At least I know when the pastel started breeding. All the unknowns with the female I bought are already making me crazy!
