    "Pastel ball python" - Craigslist
I am looking into a Hog Island Boa at the moment and won't be purchasing another ball python until I get said snake (which I am thinking I'll get him over the summer), but that somehow doesn't stop me from searching Craiglist for reptiles.

I thought calico but I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to ID'ing ball pythons. What do y'all think?

    No calico.
    Just a browned out pastel.

Ah, and the browning out would create the blotchy-ness? And a more vibrant pastel would have a gradient along the side?

A "high quality" pastel keeps their color thru adulthood. "Lower quality" will really brown out around the top and I'm guessing that's what your seeing as blotchy.

    It is a Pastel.
If you want a Pastel that does not brown out, you need to get a Pastel crossed with something else, like a Het Black Eyed Lucy or Vanilla, or a nice Super Pastel.

Or just a really nice pastel.

    Not really...
I have never seen a nice Pastel that looks better than a Pastel YB, Pastel Sulfur or Pastel Vanilla. Super Pastels, if you just want the Pastel gene, are very cheap now, and would probably be the way to go.

Well, there are some Lemon Pastels that seem to be able to hold their colour a bit better than the usual ones.
