What kind of lights do you use?

So obviously this only applies to us heat lamp/light users... But what do you use?

I ask because my temps are a little low with my current setup. I have the zoomed dual reflector dome thing, with a 75watt basking bulb in one socket(12on/12off) and a 75watt infrared bulb in the other socket(24on).

Should I try a 100watt basking light?

Also if any of you do, what kind and watt uva or uvb bulbs do you use?

I use to use 100 watt zoo med infrared heat lamps controlled by either a lamp dimmer or thermostat.

Ball pythons don't need UV light as they are nocturnal, and high output UV lights like 5.0 and 10.0 should not be used. Full spectrum lighting can be used (2.0 bulbs like the zoo med nature sun)

Did you use a uth also? I'm thinking of getting. Its 20l tank BTW

Not at the time.

Unless you are planning on only using the heat lamp to maintain the cool side/ambient air temperature at 80 degrees and use the UTH to create the 90 degree basking spot there is no reason to use both a UTH and heat lamp.

UTH's must be controlled by a thermostat. Stay away from the junk sold in pet stores. Here are 3 good ones:

Yes

really? ill take your word for it... in my personal opinion its sort of bright, atleast to my eyes, but that just means one less trip to the store!

Its brighter to human eyes then reptile eyes. I'm using a 75 black night and a 75 infrared 24/7 until I get his UV (not required) and new infrared.

Then it will be a 75watt spotlight for uva and a separate uvb bulb during the day. Then a 100watt infrared at night. I want him to have his uvs.

I buy 100watt infrared bulbs and run them on rheostats. Flukers makes nice ones with rheostats built in. Although I have seen them fail and when they do, they fail wide open. I recommend a thermostat just in case. Thermostat is also nice to keep things a constant temp if the ambient temp of the room fluctuates as mine does.

Also I've found that its better for humidity, if the lights stay on at a lower intensity for longer durations than on/off frequently with high intensity.

Honestly Iv strayed away from the whole tank setup, it looks nice but is a headach! racks are the way to go, I sunk $600 into an aquarium then bought myself a rack, so much better!
