Just wondering if anyone else on here has a lazy bp... Eleanor doesn't really take any interest in the rat dance anymore, but if I lay it down in front of her, motionless, she'll wait a minute then just start swallowing, no constriction or anything. Anybody else have a snake with table manners?

    One happy bp...
mine don't seem to acknowledge the rodent unless it's "dancing".

It takes a lot of energy to constrict and kill their prey. I think some snakes figure out that they don't have to do that and so will choose not to. Why waste the energy? It's all about conservation!

Yep, eventually my guys stopped striking for frozen prey, too. I guess if it doesn't resist there's just not much point in wasting their energy. :)

Our big boy does that - as does the AfRock now. Frankly I'm perfectly happy to see diminished striking and coiling in something thats gonna get that big.

I think that it could be in their nature to eat w/o constricting; I am pretty sure that pythons are scavengers as much as they are ambush predators. That means that your snake is seeing the f/t mouse or rat as being dead already. Will it strike and constrict if you make the rat dance around?
