Seeing is learning!

So I had an idea, some people out here seem to be really advanced herp keepers and there are a lot of people asking questions about how to properly set up an enclosure ( furniture, equipment, etc.) Heres my idea, why dont all the veteran keepers post pics of your set ups so all of us novices can learn by visual. I for one learn better by seeing than being told! So what do you all think?

When using racks, do you still need to use hides or do the racks act as the hides?

Not much to see.
All snakes on Reptibark, Sand Boas on Aspen. The one on paper was waiting for new bark.

Some have 2 hides, some have 1 and a few don't have any.

For me, only picky eaters get hides, otherwise no hides necessary.

For me,
It all depends on the snake and where the rack sits in relation to the lights in the room.
Some hides are used more as a perch.

Depends on the snake as far as hides. I think it also might have to do if the breeder/ previous owner had hides in the rack / tank. I had all my snakes in tanks with 2 hides and then switched to a rack. They didn't like not having a hide. Just an observation though

So I have never used a rack system before and am unfamiliar with the mechanics of them. What is the best way to heat? How do you create a 12/12 light cycle? Is humidity easily retained? Etc...

If you purchase a rack from Animal Plastics, Boaphile etc. They will come with a strip of flexwatt "snaked" through the rack. It's toward the back of the rack, creating the hot spot.

The tubs hold humidity very well. The rack also does better in a room with a steady temp.

The flexwatt controls the hot side temp. The room temp controls the ambient air temps.

An enclosed rack is nice and dark in the back of the tub.

I have lights in my snake room set on a timer. It's bright enough where it gives them a light cycle.

a tub set up with hides. One on the warm side, one on the cool side.
Made these out of cheap dish tubs from Walmart. $3 each. They have a couple of different sizes. The large one fits my largest girls and even fits a 6-7' Carpet
