    probe placement question
OK so my rack holds two tubs on each level and is seven levels high. Right now I have the probe in its own tub and it keeps all the others within two degrees, so my rack houses 13 plus the probe tub. If I were to place the probe over the heat tape instead would it be similarly effective?
Hoping to hear from people who have experience with both methods

You will have to adjust your thermostat, and keep a close eye on tub temps for a week or so, but it should work fine. There shouldn't be a big change in the consistency of the temps from the bottom of the rack to the top with the new probe placement, but anything is possible.

OK that's kinda what I figured

I used to use my top tub as my thermostat "only" tub, but at some point you run out of room for that.

I cut up an old tub and placed a piece over the heat tape with the probe taped to that with duct tape. My temps didin't really change at all because it was basically the same thickness of the same material between the probe and the heat tape. Just keep it to the very side of the bottom, and your tub will clear when it is fully in the rack.
