Do you guys ever notice your BP's trying to get close to the heat lamp? My temps are all spot on, so it shouldn't be that.

I caught her doing this tonight, and I've seen her climb on the ledge of my tank and get close to it.

Your thermometer says that it is 77 on the probe, and 82 at the unit. are your temps usually higher than that?

I haven't used heat lamps with my BP's in a long time, but I do remember seeing a few of mind doing something similar to that. (awesome pied BTW)

Is it a red or IR lamp? Royals (most pythons for that matter) hunt by heat and they optical equipment (heat pits and eyes) are are 'tuned' to the IR/red end of the spectrum it could just be reaction to the IR light.

Im watching my new spider do it right now. I keep new snakes in QT in a blacked out tank. My spider likes going on his hide and stretching his body toward the 50 watt red bulb while flicking his tounge all night. And his hot side is 95 cool side 82 so i dont think they are looking for more heat, just curiosity.

I haven't experienced mine trying to get closer to the head lamp, but she does tend to bask once and a while. She's not once for hiding 100% and will actually curl up on her branch or on top of her hide that is underneath the lamp.
