heat mats/pads /tube size?
soon i will get my females bp but i still have some questions.
i have never used heat pads and i dont know what brand or wattage to get for their enclosure- plastic tubes .
i was thinking to get plastic tubes of 30 inch long/22 inch wide / 7 inch high ! is this tub too big for a baby-juvy bp ? should i go smaller?
ok so for 30/22/7 inch tube will a 11.5 inch by 13.5 inch heat mat of 15 w be ok? should i get a bigger heat mat or a smaller tube ?
are exo terra desert heat mats of 16 w ok? or they input to much heat ?
what do you think about jbl heat pads are they ok ?
thank you in advance
Re: heat mats/pads /tube size?
it depends on the enclosure really, with a glass terrarium just get an under tank heating pad about the size if a 3rd of the tank. with a rack or plastic tub heat tape works well. the wattage doesn't vary, but zoomed under tank pads can be found at most pet stores and they are pre set to about 85 degrees f. either way size isn't so important, just make sure your snake can rest on top of it when he feels he needs to. oh and never ever use a hot rock, they can burn your snake.

x2. You NEED to get a thermostat to regulate your heat tape or heat mats. Without one they get way too hot. The heat mat should also cover about 1/3 of the container, dividing it into a warm side and a cool side.
You don't need a tub that big for a baby ball python, they feel much more secure in smaller containers. Depending on your ball python's size you could either do a 6 quart or a 15 quart tub to start. I had mine in a 6 quart tub to start out and she did very well with this size.
