best cage dimensions for GTP/carpets

Any particular specific size enclosures for GTPs or Carpets?

I know GTPs are arboreal and carpets are semi so more height then anything?

Carpets can be 4'-5' range up to 8'+
The avg size cage people use is the 4'x24"x15" or 18"
AP even has a ACReptiles design. 4'x24"x15" with a shelf.


I don't have any GTPs but I have read people using 3'x24"x18" and putting the heat panel on one side. So it can go left / right gradient and not just up / down. I'm sure some one else will chime in on that one.

AP Carpet cage is 36x24x15 actually... I was always wondering if that's enough. .

My adult male would be fine in that size.

GTPs don't need a ton of height as they usually move side to side to thermoregulate. I have my adult male in a 24'x24'x18" and he is doing fine.

I agree. You should have at least 18-24" of height, but width is just as important - if not more so. I feel a GTP's cage should be a minimum of 24" wide. I use a 36x24x24 for my 8yr old adult male GTP, but he's a large male. The radient heat panel is located on the ceiling off to one side so he can move side to side to thermoregulate and still feel secure.

I would recommend the same as a minimum for carpets since they can be larger. Most carpets should have at least 36" wide though, in my opinion. :gj:

I like 4x2x2s for adult carpets, though many people get away with 15'' of height just fine.

My adult GTP is in a 4'L x 24"H x 18"W enclosure. The most important thing is that the enclosure is not TOO high as they need to reach the water bowl on the bottom from their perches. It is a common misconception that since they are an arboreal species the enclosure must be taller than wide (like a chameleon cage).
