    Ambient Temps
So my apartment is old and lets all the $$ heat and air conditioning out. Therefore, I don't turn the heat up too much during the winter to save on costs. This has been the 2nd winter season in my apartment and I had my brand new lesser pass away 2 nights ago, I am sure it was an RI but I have no experience with RI's or know anyone who has so I didn't see the signs until it was too late :(

With that said, I keep my apartment around 68 in the winter...maybe 70 if it gets too cold...should I buy a space heater to keep in the "snake room" to help warm the ambient temps up more? I usually turn up ther thermostat to help compensate for the cooler ambient temps but after I just lost a baby I am questioning my current methods.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks!!!

What type of cage are you keeping the snakes in? What is the cool side/air temperature inside the cage?

They are sterilite tubs in a rack with heat tape on the back side. The cool side air temp is ~75 F.

If all of your other snakes are fine I wouldn't be jumping to assume it's all your fault. Your cool side temps are a bit low, but if you just got that baby and you said yourself you don't know what to look for he/she may have already been sick. I'd work on getting your ambient temp a little closer to 80. But don't beat yourself up too bad over it. Maybe a uth on the cool side with a thermostat? I've heard they usually don't do much for ambient temps but seeing how yours only needs a couple of degrees boost it might work.

Your temp is a little low and a space heater would probably help.
Cold snakes usually don't get RIs or have any other problems if done correctly.
The cause of them being sick is more human error as in, this snake is too cold so lets warm it up as quick as we can.
If they are cooled slowly and then brought back up to temp over a week or so then all is usually okay.

If it was a new baby, who know what could have been wrong.

Yeah...the other baby I bought at the same time frame from the same supplier just died this week too. I hadn't been able to get it to eat since I bought it last Nov. so I started worrying when I noticed the spine more visible. I was able to assist her in eating and she at. And then she died. I have no idea what from. She did not show any signs of RI...temps were right...and she must have died sometime after I fed her because she had big black spots on her like she was decaying when I finally found her. :( I am freaking out...and super worried!
