Ball Python TRADE VALUE?

Hey Everyone,

Was really curious on how the price of ball pythons changed when put into a trading situation. When trading with another breeder, does the value of your snake for "trade value" go up or down from original market value, and do the snakes that belong to the breeder become valued at "trade value"? I am really confused because I went to the White Plains show with my friend today, and he was determined to trade his kingpin female for something else (what he was looking for, I'm clueless). So when offering trades, his 700 dollar snake (purchase price) was valued at 500 dollars when trading and ultimately he couldn't come to an agreement with any breeders. So what's up with trading? Can someone give me an idea about how it works, and what it's all about?

Usually trade value is higher. Example: I have a snake that I am asking $1000 for as a sale price. Lets say current market value is $1100. I may take $950 cash or I want the current market value for the trade which is $1100.

The trade needs to be equal market value. I wouldn't want to trade a snake that has a market value of $1100 for a snake that has a market value of $900 unless I really wanted it. Even tho cash wise I would have taken $900. Make sense? Basically, cash is king and there is wiggle room dealing with cash...

This is how I see it...

Two Pro breeders? Dollar for dollar value...even trade
Hobby guy trading with hobby guy? even trade again
Hobby guy trading with a Pro? Hobby guy gets wholesale value, Pro gets market value

Reason for this is that as a hobby guy, I go off to work to make a living. The snakes are simply a hobby. The Pro guys do this for their bread and butter...Any transaction (sale or trade) they make with a customer (i.e. not a fellow pro breeder) should result in income or added value of some sort...either cash or a better deal with a trade...
