The Death of HR511 - The Snake Ban
    http://thereptilereport.com/the-deat...the-snake-ban/

Doesn't change the current ban, but at least the others won't be added. :)

Thanks for the news, but being a simple American I have a question I can't answer by asking my good friend google; nor spending a few hrs researching legislative documentation: does this decision supercede the first decision to add the 4 species of constricting snakes to the injurious list of the Lacy act which was enacted by congress in March of 2011? The scientific reasoning and logic that brought Congress to this decision recently is quite literally the exact same as should have been used as before.

*cough cough* If there was a lobbying agency in Washington willing to raise obvious lawsuits just like this based on "obviously" (read: purposefully) flawed scientific documentation our hobby and our responsible and professional (which are the vast, vast majority) keepers wouldn't have even been in question in the first place.

I saw this on Facebook today and came poking around to see if anyone was talking about it.

From what I understand this is relatively old news that was just rehashed by Andrew Wyatt's new organization.

When I saw some one post this to Facebook I was really hoping that it had been "killed" but I believe that's the wrong terminology sense the four are in fact still banned.

It was not killed, it expired with the congress.

This happens to scores of bills on both the state and federal level every year - whether they are opposed or not.

It is not a "decision" and does not impact any other legislation or rule changes.

The importance of understanding spin and propaganda:

As of August 2011 (7 months into the 112th congress) over 4200 congressional bills had been proposed.

As of the end of the 112th congress a short while ago, only 219 had been passed.

Now a bill that is defeated by a vote is something to discuss. However when the overwhelming number of bills naturally die, is that something worth runnning your yap about?

Many of these dead bill just get reintroduced the folllowing session. Remember this when someone tries to celebrate the expiration of a proposed bill.

Skip- just want to make sure I got this right. We didn't defeat the ban they just post poned the bill, in which case they can just try again next year. If that is the case once again we have not won/defeated anything:(

The bill expired. Any bills that were not passed by the end of the term just expire.

They can be reintroduced next session.

Should have read 19 months in to the 112th congress. The session ran from January 3, 2011 to January 3, 2013.
