Egg tub question.

Okay so I have a few questions as I'm getting the last few things done with my incubator. For the egg-crate if I can't get any here in the small town I live in could I use some chicken mesh wire and make it so the eggs sit on that above the vermiculite/water mix? I have a huge roll of the mesh wih wire and could bend it so it sits just above but wouldn't poke the eggs or hatchlings.

I would try to find the egg crates. They should be available at any hardware or lighting store.

I managed to find a hardware store in the next town that sells it. A 2' x 4' eggcrate white is $13.99. I will probably go pick it up tomorrow if they have it in stock.

I got mine at Lowe's. It comes in sheets the size of a large multi bulb, overhead flourescent light fixture. You can easily cut it to size.

So I picked up my egg-crate today and cut it to fit my egg container in the incubator, I cut out 2 to stack just to be safe. Before the egg-crate my humidity was staying steady at 89% after tinkering with the egg tub and getting the egg-crate in and topping up with water and putting the lid back on I put the container back in the incubator to get back to temp. So far my temp is back to 88 F, it goes from 88.3 - 88.9 throughout the day and over night. My question is though how long until I see my humidity going up, it's at 88% right now. I'm using the exo-terra temp/humidity probe which is inside the egg tub on the egg-crate.

So I just checked the humidity after waiting an hour and 15 min and it's still at 88%. Will the humidity go up at all with the egg-crate and extra water added?

That depends on the type of tub you are using and how much humidity it allows out.
I use 7qt sterilte locking lid tubs and the seal is good enough that I add holes to ventilate.

I actually found in my new incubator that I had to use cling wrap to keep the humidity up in the egg tubs. The first clutch dimpled really dramatically overnight and scared the bejeebers out of me. So I added a little more water and then cling wrapped. I probably overdid it, because then I had to struggle with mold the rest of the time for that clutch. But the cling wrap helped with the other clutches.

The container I'm using has a locking lid with two very tiny holes on the top of the lid.
