Apparently we're not eating again

Bob is going on week number 2 of not eating :cry:.
I believe it is because I had to move his enclosure to the other side of the room and move stuff around. The weird thing is during handling (Once this week and again tonight to clean out his cage) he is his normal curious stinky rotten little self.

He acts complety normal when he's out but when I tried feeding him tonight he wanted nothing to do with his Gerbil. Monday is the normal feeding day but it was close enough considering he has not eaten for a week I thought I would try.

I was curious when BP fast do they still act normal otherwise? I decided I am gonna not handle him (except if his cage needs cleaning) and wait to attempt feeding again till the 10'th. See if that settles him down and hopefully he gets nice and hungry.

yeah they tend to act the same when fasting and as long as there isn't noticable weight loss he should be fine. Exploring is a strange behavior it can mean either stimulation, hunting, or flight response. So exploratory behavior could mean that he is happy, scared, or hungry. He'll eat soon enough try to wait a full 7-10 days before feeding again and keep handling minimal (for insurance) that should help him adjust and be just long enough for him to get real hungry. No, it looks the same as all the other links. What do the voices in your head tell you about it? :lol:

For what it's worth, as long as Bob isn't eating anyway, he might as well not be eating mice or rats as gerbils. They're less expensive, easier to find, and easier to ensure a good supply of if you ever need to move or get him switched to frozen/thawed. :)

If I didn't know better I would say there is an anti gerbil movement on this forum :wink:

IMO I think switching over to rats as soon as your snake can eat a small adult rat (4- 4 1/2 inches in length nose to butt) is a very good thing, once they are switched over at that stage of their developement, it should be relatively easy to always find an appropriately sized meal, so that only one prey item need be offered at any given feeding. Now whether its harder to switch from mice to rats, or gerbils to rats, would be the deciding factor for me as to wich one to offer, since the mice/gerbils would only do the job for a little while. Just a thought. :wink:

As to you BP takin a break from feeding mine went 30 days or so without eating and acted like his ol bratty self thwhole time, than just started eating again, sometimes weather, barometric pressure, and a host of other variables will make your snake go off feed for a while. Those same indicaters will turn his feeding response back on, so just keep up the good husbandry, and try not to worry. Believe me hes not worried!
