Humidity Question

I know this has been asked over and over again so I apologize in advance. I'm really having a hard time with humidity for my snake, it's more of a "dead heat" in his cage. I'm using a 20 gallon glass tank. The humidity keeps dropping to 15%. I put a humidity hide in there for him but he never goes in it, he only stays on the cool side. I mist a couple of times a day as well.

I tried using plastic wrap on the top as well as a wet towel, only covering small section so the air still gets in. I have a screen top, I think that may be part of the problem. His skin looks a little dry.

Any other suggestions?

When you cover the screen top, you have to cover 1/2 - 2/3 of it.

What are you using for substrate? What are you using to check humidity?

Try covering 3/4's of the screen top with Tin foil then put styroboard around the back and two sides

I use plexiglass over the screen top. Roughly 90% covered. Insulated 3 sides with sponge neoprene. Large water bowl and a handful of sphagnum moss. Humidity has been 70% for a few days! Just as good as any tub, hands down!

I'm using coco husk for substrate, I also have a big water bowl in there, I have to use a lamp on both sides to keep the heat regulated so when I put the towel over a bigger section I have to take the lamp down and then the temp drops. I have two probes for humidity, one on each side.

Would having too much substrate reduce or increase humidity? Maybe I have too much in there?

Do you drill holes in your plexi glass? How do you have it? Just layed on top of the screen?

Lights on both sides is prolly what is zapping your humidity. You gotta get the room warmer or move the enclosure to a warmer room. That way you can get temps and humidity right...

I know but the heat is on 78 degrees in the room, so I don't know what to do.

No holes drilled, I just leave a bit of screen uncovered on both ends. My plexiglass top is cut in sections, kind of like a puzzle, so that I can open it up here or there, more or less, add a lamp if needed. I need to get that Photobucket thingy going...
