    burrowing snake?
l just put cypress bedding in Watson' s cage and he is busy burrowing under it until he disappears. Is this okay? Temps are 92 hot and 82 cold. Humidity 60-70 per cent. He ate 5 days ago. Weighs 67 gm. Is this normal behaviour?

How thick is the bedding? It is generally considered okay since ball pythons do live in old rodent burrows in the wild.

Yes sometimes they like to burrow, but do you have good hides? Snug for him and on both hot and cold sides?

I'm wondering about his hides as well. Typically they are happy in their hides and don't burrow. What are your hides? They should be snug for him and only have one opening. Log hides aren't good bp hides.

Oh and I see you are a fellow Iowan!

Maybe he thinks he's a sand boa.

He has three hides. One on warm, one on cold and one in middle. They are small enough to be snug. He also has lots of fake plants that he wanders through at night. He is still using his hides but at night spends time getting under the bedding and poking his head out. By morning I usually find him curled up under a hide. The bedding is about an inch thick. I added it in hopes I could keep the humidity up better. It is dry here in Iowa this time of year....and cold !!

He might just like the feel of the tub also. I have a couple that seem to push the substrate aside and lay on the tub.

If you have enough hides, the temps are right then I wouldn't worry to much :)
