    Our very first python
    Hi all!

my Husband and i are getting our very first ball python next week for Christmas! YAY! we have been doing out research on them for about a year now but one thing that is not too clear is the bring it home part. Everything we have read says that this is a stressful time and they may not eat... we have even read we should wait to feed it. How long should we wait to try to feed our snake for the first time?

Also I am super concerned about keeping the cage humid enough. I know we have to keep it between 50%-70%, We live in Las Vegas, so its not humid here at all. Question one: should i be keeping the cage on the more humid side (60%-70%) question 2: when we first set up the cage how often should we mist it to bring the humidity up?

And, of course any helpful hints will be great.

    Thank you!

Congrats on the snake! Typically it is recommended to let them be to settle in for a week without bothering or feeding. However, if your husbandry is spot on, they may eat. My last four new additions (3 balls, 1 boa) have eaten 3 days after coming home for me.

You want to keep your humidity 50-60 at all times, bumping to 70 for sheds.

You must be a HP fan? :)

Getting your first snake is so exciting. I relive the excitement all the time with 15 snakes lol.

I mist my cages about once a week or every couple days. As for settling in, my baby cornsnakes ate like the day after I got them. I usually wait 4-6 days before offering mine food.
