zoo med heat cable

We purchased the 14' zoo med heat cable for our new ABS plastic enclosure but having trouble keeping the tape sticky on the outside of the cage. Can the heat cable go inside under the substrate which is aspen? can i put in inside but just put something like plexi glass over then the substrate??

I've tried using aluminum foil tape but it seems to eventually unstick. Perhaps electrical tape would work? That's what I think I'm going to try next anyway.

i use the heat cable for my vision racks. According too zoo med, they indicate it can be used within the enclosure to wrap around branches and other decor. Try using some non toxic adhesive/sealant that is used for sealing fish tanks. i picked up a tube of that stuff at home depot. hope this helps.

e tape will gold well if wrap around some stuff say branches or whatever. does not stick well if tape on a smooth surface

Just be careful, I don't know how heat cables function compared to ZooMed heat pads...but in my earlier days I had a ZooMed heat pad on the outside of an ABS cage, without a thermostat (I know), and it malfunctioned. Needless to say, if the snake was on that thing it would have been cooked. :( Luckily that didn't happen!

I used dabs of hot glue to hold my heat cable down on my ap econo hatchling rack. as long as you get it streched taunt and hold it there until the glue cures it does well.

we bought electrical tape and that didnt want to stick to the cage very well. I will use a hot glue gun if it wont melt or burn......

so adhesive from home depot should hold it? what type

Do not place heat cable inside the enclosure it gets quite hot too hot to be safe inside. I would not recommend a heater inside where a animal can contact it for anything but a bump, and even then I would be leery of anything that was hotter than 100ºF. I have cable I use on slab sided pvcx and a roto mounded vision and just use al. tape and also have used electrical tape both have worked perfectly. Have you cleaned the outside with alcohol to remove any surface oils sometimes used when the material is cut. Did you try good quality tape or cheap tape there is quite a difference between the cheap and the more costly.

i got the cheap one since the guy told me it seemed stickier....i will have to get the better one tomorrow.
