Probably a basic question, but...

I've noticed that people seem to tend to use normal females and morph males when breeding only one morph (i.e. spider x normal). Is there a reason for that?

They might already had normal
females for pets, a male morph is cheaper.

I would rather have 3 normal females and a 1 morph male than have 3 normal males and 1 morph female.
But that's just me.

Morph males tend to cost less than morph females, and it takes less time to grow out a male than a female. Also, you could effectively breed your morph male to several females to get that morph in multiple clutches. You could breed multiple males to one morph female but then your odds of hitting what you want are lessened depending on which male(s) take. Breeding a normal male to a morph female is almost wasteful, if you've spent the money for a morph female you could at least pick up a pastel male for $100 or less to go multi-gene. Just several reasons I've come across not to breed a normal male, unless he's in a dinker project.

Thanks, guys! I figured that was probably the reason, but I wasn't sure if there was something else at play (normal females being hardier or having bigger clutches or something like that...not saying they are or do, just speculating on possibilities I hadn't heard of).

Also for people like me normal females are a great way to put super males to work. It frees up my morph/combo girls to produce multi gene keeper while still making animals to offer for sale to pay the light bill.. Normal girls are wonderful to have for any breeder.
