yeah there are too many CB reptiles out there to be removing them from their natural environment IMO. Tell her you can get her a sweet looking corn, king, w. hognose, or something :) If you already have something to keep it in it won't be that much and it will be good to go as far as f/t feeding.

Good job letting it go. Garters aren't good to catch wild and keep unless you let them go in the fall.
Garters are cool because they roam and eat all spring and summer, then turn around and head home to get back together in big groups to hibernate. I used to catch and keep them when I was a little kid and would let them go at the end of summer because I thought it was neat that it would go home to friends and family. Probably have an interesting story to tell!
Was watching this program on garters once and the herpetologist was saying that while garters hibernate together, there are never any hatchlings mixed in. He laughed and said it would be great to be the first to find the mysterious lair of the 1st year garters. Cool, huh?

very cool! I really wish television had more shows about non venemous snakes. A) the snake fear mania would die down and B) I like them a lot! :)

Animal Planet has a ton of them.
Just did a show called the Beauty of Snakes in HDTV
    It was good.
Again confirmed that snakes Do Not hear airborn sounds only vibes thru the belly.
Some people talk about how their bp's know their voices. That's impossible they can't hear!

Well, there have been studies that show snakes have an inner ear...just no eardrum or middle-ear structure...which implies that they have SOME level of hearing airborn sounds, but not like we do.

i saw that show. not in hi-def, but it was still good.

as for snake hearing...they dont hear like we do. but sounds are vibrations. what happenes is the sound hits the ground (or cage or box or whatever) and vibrates it. the snake can then sense the different level of vibrations. a low voice will make bigger vibes then a high one. also, in a box or a cage the vibrations will be amplified in all the walls. so a snake would be able to recognize someone talking, but maybe not distinguish between people. still youd probably have to be talking kind of loud. besides the fact that this stuff is kind of elementary, i saw an article on it a while ago.

keep the garter or piss off the girlfriend...must have been a tough choice. good for you, doing the right thing.
