What defines a matrix?

I've been doing some research on the matrix bloods recently, and so far I am having a difficult time differentiating between some of the matrix's I've seen and just normal bloods. Some of them seem to have a much more busy pattern that is easy to tell apart, but many others that I have seen look like normals to me. So the question is, what are the specific visual traits that define a matrix?

The reason I ask is because I currently have a 2011 blood female that I purchased about a year ago. At the time they told me that the father was a matrix, the mother a normal, and that she was one of the normals in the clutch. I didn't think much of it at the time because I knew the matrix was a dominant trait. Recently I started doing some research on some of the blood morphs because I am looking at getting a male, and I noticed that many of the pictures that I saw of the matrix looked strikingly similar to my little female. So I started thinking that maybe there is a possibility that she is a matrix? Unless there is some important trait that I am missing.

Overall I'm just very confused about what the matrix is supposed to look like due to the very different patterns of them I have seen. If anyone could clarify it would be a great help.

Alyssa, can you post a belly shot of your girl?

"if not mistaken" the original character was the pixelation in the lateral or side blotches. Hence the word Matrix..This is not "always" apparent and breeders feel they have additional markers to further determine what is and is not..If you checked out Nicks face book he likely elaborated on the subject..Theres a good man in your state www.badapplereptiles.com that may be of assistance to you..

That definitely helps, though I'm still not 100% sure about my female. I will try to get a couple pics posted tonight when I have time.

Hmmmm......I'm guessing without seeing in person a very pretty normal.......but that's just my guess going by the photos. Georgous animal nontheless. We have a few Matrix' and I examined just about every feature/detail I can think of to compare.....

It is tricky with these guys as there are so many variations! Some have alot of the 'speckling' on the sides, some have wider white eye stripes....some don't!

My husband just looked at your pics. He seems to think that there may be a chance that yours could be a Matrix. It seems that usually a normal red blood will have a checkered belly, whereas all but one the Matrix' we have in our snakeroom have a 'ashy' colored belly rather than checkered. Too bad there's no genetic testing to tell us huh?! How cool would that be.

That's actually why I picked her out originally. She had a significantly more interesting pattern and color compared to her normal siblings (though I didn't get a chance to see the matrix siblings).

And I appreciate you guys taking the time to look at the pics for me, but like you said I just wish there was some way to know for sure other than breeding to a known matrix to find out.
