Camera question (again..)

So this christmas, my mum said she wants to get me a nice camera :D. Yay :banana:!

Anybody have any advice? I don't want her to spend $350 - 400+, but a nice camera that will be perfect for capturing color and close-ups.

I know it takes a skilled photographer who is comfortable with their camera, and one who has a good understanding of the way they work, but I think part of good photography is having a good camera :P. Anybody care to push me in the right direction? Perhaps links, names for me to google, and reviews?

Well, from personal experience, you either need to spend 340-1000 or you might as well wait and save money.

The two cameras I recommend are either the Nikon P510 (399.00) or the Nikon D90. I've owned both in the last two months, and the D90 is the best one out there right now, but it's 1000 dollars. I really liked the P510, it's a lot of the power of the D90 without the price.

Perhaps not the best camera out there, but something usable that can get the job done. The camera I've been using was $150, and it seems to work just fine at capturing colors, yet it has trouble focusing on small objects. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I would still like a nice user friendly camera that will be able to focus nicely and capture small details. You know, something for snakes LOL :D

Maybe the Canon Rebel T3 or the Nikon equivalent one. Not sure about the price, might be on the high end of your price range. I have the newer Canon Rebel T3i and it takes really good pictures. Of course, the lens that come with it won't do super macro pictures but you can still pretty good pictures. You could also start with that camera and save up for better lenses.. Or maybe rent some different lens and see which ones you like. That's what I'm doing at least :)

Oh man. I have been doing lots of research on camera's as I need a new one and wanted a nice dslr. Looked at both Canon and Nikon. What I have found is that they are both great. Some people just really prefer one over the other. As one guy put it, its like Chevy and Ford people. Your just die hard one way or the other, but both are good. Me, I'm hoping Santa got me the Canon Rebel t3i, not cheap though. They are about $550. The t4i looks good too, but more money.

The T3 seems to be $300. I think I'm going to have to push up the budget, since that camera was reviewed as a nice "entry level" camera :oops:.

I'll definitely buy the camera first, then mess with lenses in the future. I had no idea you could rent them :O. Thanks for the info :gj:.

Is it the rebel t3i, $300 is a great deal if so? Cheapest I found it was on sale at Target for $449. I guess maybe somewhere online might he cheaper. Where did ya find it?

I've been looking at them also. I was looking at the canon t4i nice camera for the money. but I'm going to wait and sell a few more hatchlings and get the canon 5D

I just looked on amazon and saw a t3, not t3i for 300. I think.. I just googled really quick to get a ballpark lol, and that was the first option :P

I am an amateur photographer...been fortunate to go on some awesome trips and get some amazing photos...I swear by Canons....Saving up for the Rebel T4 now...I have several friends of mine, including myself that have Rebel T3s (the 18.1 megapixel one not the 12'vers)
