Feeding live rats/mice compared to frozen
Is one better than the other? My 4yr old python eats live rats...my fire python eats frozen hoppers. :snake:

No not as far as the snake is concerned. Some find one or the other more convenient. For the most part if you breed rats live is easier and if you don't frozen is. Live feedings generally are best supervised so feeding may take a bit longer it really comes down to personal preferences.

I breed my own rats and I find while it is easier to feed live, depending on the snake I don't feel as comfortable feeding them live and prefer to prekill. My carpet python and jungle corn snake are superb hunters while my ball pythons and other corns always manage to get bit so I prefer to give them frozen or prekilled.

Thanks for your responses! I'll just stick to feeding them how I've been feeding them. I'm always there when I feed my normal python live rats so she doesn't get hurt! As soon as I put the rat in the bin she goes for it right away!:D

I feed both and I notice the animals that eat live grow much quicker. Might have something to do with live cells vs. dead cells. I know there is research that show it has an effect on humans.

I do notice an overall difference with my animals that eat live though.
