This is what I do. I also like the bigger flakes of pine over the finer pieces. I find the larger flakes absorb better and need cleaning less often then the finer pine.

We've tried everything from oak shavings to aspen and are back to pine, The pine seems to hold off the oder till the end of the week when cleaning day is..also pine can help ward off mites in larger collections.

I use GEM white shavings I believe it is made with Douglas fir and Hemlock and love it for smell and soaking up urine. No dust either :)
