    How many holdbacks?
I was just wondering, on average how many hold backs you guys usually end up with over the course of a breeding season? This season coming up will be my first breeding season with ball pythons, so I'm assuming a great majority of what I produce will be staying right here.

I'm trying to get everything in order to breed in the last month of this season and I'm gonna be keeping females morph or normal and male morphs. So with luck ill hold back five or six then sell the rest. Bee x normal will be one of my first pairs.

Depends, this year we are breeding for things to keep so we might keep 30-50 this spring. Other years we'll breed for one or two particular combo's or morphs and sell what ever is'nt what we were wanting, so far we've held about 20 this year and about 15 the year before. It's seems to keep going up every year.

With 4-5 breeding females I'm hopeing we will be holding back about 10 animals but that all depends on the odds we hit.

We changed tactics this year and sold ALL (ok kept 4 dbl hets) of our hatchlings and re invested into double and triple gene females to jump ahead a little bit.

I tend to hold back about 20 every year or so. This year I'm planning on holding back/purchasing to hold back about 50-60 double gene and up females. Will always hold back about 5-6 males too to up the gene count with something I produce.

That just depends on what you produce and what sex they are really. Last year I ended up keeping back 4 females. I missed on a few things so I let most of the stuff go. I obviously held back the nicest animals for upgrades to quality and gene count. I'm not going to holdback something just because I need to increase my numbers. It has to make sense from a quality AND utility aspect. A few of the snakes are keys to some long term projects I hope to accomplish. I would highly advise putting lots of thought into what you holdback. Numbers aren't everything :)

Out of a total of 53 eggs hatched this year, I'm keeping 8...and only one do I really regret letting go, but such is life. I should be producing a larger variety of morphs this year, and will again hold back accordingly.
