    CHE with herpstat?
Silly noob question but I plan on installing a CHE in a animal plastics T8 cage and was wondering if I could control the temp with my herpstat 2? Also what should I cover it with so the snake cannot get in contact with it? thanks

Yes you can control it with a herpstat, but in all honesty a T8 isn't tall enough to safely install a lamp fixture in. AP does make screened cut outs so you can use heat lamps in fixtures

what should I do then? Cut a hole in the top on the cage then add mesh?

    That's basically what AP does.

Bit late for that now since I have the cage lol anyway I just checked their site and they sell the screen separately. I could probably cut the hole myself and add the screen. Looks like a housing for the screen attaches inside and out.

I would suggest trying a fluorescent light first safer and often does the job just as well.

Already have one inside the cage. Brings my ambient temp is 77 in almost the whole cage. Some parts of the cage are in the 80's but the cool side hide is 77 or 78. Once the fluorescent light turns off it stays 77 or 76.

Why use a CHE then? 77-78 is fine for an ambient temp. If you add a bit of insulation it might bump it a few more degrees. I use a deep blue led light beside the FL light. It adds a few degrees as well in the dead of winter I keep it on 24/7 it helps a faire bit. In the end you can always cut holes and add a che no problem but it might be worth an attempt at something less intrusive. Just a suggestion.

You could also look into RHP's. I just got done sealing my T8, I mounted my RHP's I got from reptile basics. Sorry for the photo quality but here is the setup so far. Still waiting on the glass before I finish.
