i went into a pet store around my house, not the one i usually go to, but i wanted to check it out. well the first thing i saw was a ball python that looked about 3 feet long, and a BCI which looked looked about the same length, together in a 10 gallon tank, with NO hiding spots. that kindof upset me.

Unfortunately, that's pretty common. The last time I was in one of the pet stores around here, they had a tank full of baby ball pythons and only two small hides. The BPs were all crammed into the hides to the point that the hides were raised off the substrate. Some of the BPs couldn't fit, so they just had their heads stuck underneath the hides.

I found out that the attendants don't really like it when you tell them how they should do things. I said, "I think they could use a couple more hides in there," and she shot me a look that could kill. Of course, that was right after I suggested she remove a clearly dehydrated, skeletal and near-death lizard from another one of the tanks. She responded, "I know. He won't eat or drink, and I just haven't had the heart to kill him." I almost responded, "I would have more heart to kill him than to let him live like that." That was the same girl who I had seen about a month earlier trying to shake a few BPs out of a hollow log.

We should report stores like to the animal cruelty agencies! https://ball-pythons.net/modules/cop...0353/rant2.gif

how would one go about doing that? Could someone start a thread on how to report stores to animal agencies and all that it entails - also when is a good idea to report and good things to note?

Good questions to ask, Jonah. I'll try to fit in some research tomorrow and see what I can find out.

I recently just reported a pet store for cruel and unsanitary conditions. All you got to do is call your local humane officer, usually through local humane society.. or local animal shelter. Call and they can tell you who to contact. As far as info to give them, tell them what you have seen, smelt ..etc, and most important, the location of the pet store. NOTE: most humane officers are divided up into counties..make sure to call the one for your county.
