    Herpstat Fail
So we have an old herpstat powering one of our racks:

Hubby went to vacuum the snake room today and mistakingly plugged the vacuum into the power bar that all the flexwatt is plugged into (this power bar is then plugged into the herpstat). He turned on the vacuum and it was running at very low power then cut off. Figuring it blew a fuse in the herpstat. Opened the case and it looks like the fuse is soldered in. Anyone have any ideas about this? He works with some electrical minded people, so he's going to talk to them about this tomorrow and possibly call spyder robotics and see if it can be fixed. Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else has had to replace a fuse in one of these. Thanks!

If Spyder doesn't fix or replace it, a solder in fuse is not that bad to replace. It is unfortunate that they didn't use a surface mount fuse clip, they are only a few cents. There are a lot of cheap-o digital multi-meters out there that have solder in fuses like this. I have had to replace one before. Look up some soldering videos. Use needlenose to pull the old fuse when you heat up the solder, then add flux to the new fuse and board and resolder it. Only takes a few minutes.

I would shoot Dion a message. The only time I had a herpstat fail he gave me a screaming deal on a replacement while I sent back the faulty one when it was returned after the repair he offered a refund or I could keep it. I had a back up for a while  I ended up using it...

If you haven't already contacted Dion at Spyder Robotics I would do so, he will have you send the unit in they will replace the fuse. All the current models of Herpstats have either user replaceable fuses or resettable fuses.

My husband emailed Dion at Spyder Robotics and we shipped it back to him and he replaced the fuse for us and shipped it back to us. Awesome guy!
