Fish tank to snake enclosure?

We have an 80 gallon fish tank I've been thinking would make a great snake enclosure, but my husband has been resistant. Well today we discovered a leak, looks like I might get my wish after all!!!

Is there anything I need to worry about as far as converting it to snakes?
For example, any diseases that may be a concern?

I plan to clean it out real good using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, and rinse well. I don't want to use bleach, in case it leaves any residue that may be harmful to the snakes. Do I need to worry about anything else?

Ummmm. Maybe exactly what species you will be getting for such a huge tank? If it's taller than it is long, it might be good for an arboreal species of some kind.

Other than that, and the usual issues of heat and humidity for such a large space, I can't really think of anything.

Maybe consider how difficult it will be to clean regularly, that thing must weigh a ton.

Another consideration might be exactly what you want to do with it. I mean are you going to go so far as to turn it into a display or show tank ? Or that going to end up being too expensive and/or difficult to do. Maybe even consider partitioning it off and keeping a few different but similar species in it?

I have a 75, we rebuilt a lid to help with humidity (there are a couple good links here for that as well) and split it in half for our two balls. We covered the separation so they don't see each other as well the three sides for the sense of security.

For starters it would be partitioned into two halves, and would house my two rosy boas. It is longer than it is tall. Would require a screen top to help keep humidity low, since rosy boas like low humidity. It would be easier to get a temperature gradient too (their current enclosure doesn't have much of a gradient, not long enough I guess). It would be a display type enclosure.

To be honest, I would bleach it out (diluted), then do the vinegar wash thoroughly, then another few hot rinses. I convert tanks between newts, snakes, turtles, and fish, and that's what I do every time. Better safe than sorry. The bleach shouldn't hurt a snake, and the vinegar wash and hot rinse should take care of everything.

Why not do what so many others have done and turn it on its side? Then have plexiglas cut for a divider, use silicone sealant to mount it inside. Then you can put plexiglas on the front. Either on hinges, or sliding. It's not too much work and makes for better humidity.

Side turned are the second best enclosure IMO just after plastic. I would also suggest side turning it is easy cheap and works super well.
