On today' episode of 'Did That Just Happen?'...
I work at a jewelry store, a fairly upscale one. Most of my clientele come across as pretty classy people. Yet they have NO problem licking their rings to get them off...right before they place them in MY hand!
I've worked at 3 jewelry stores for a combined 12 years and this is not an uncommon occurrence. None of my employers have backed my suggestion that I lick them prior to returning them. Since I'm not good with subtlety, I don't know how to politely discourage this revolting behavior.
Suggestions?

Blow your nose before handing it back.

You could also offer the germ-x to them as a lubricant that dries off quickly too so maybe you can pre-empt the lick.
Ha ha! Saliva IS way better than poop! Thank you for showing me the silver lining :)
We have different methods of removing them without spit, but finger lickers are lightening fast! I've actually seen it coming and said, "Wait!" Just a little too loud.
It's like one of those slow motion car crashes on TV.

I've actually tried this! Not with lotion, and not exactly the same wording :)
I was once accused of implying that the lady had fat fingers. She did, but that isn't why I suggested using the Windex.
