I need advice on giving injections!
I just got back from the vet for my snakes nose/infection and I need to inject him with baytril. Is there any advice that anyone can give? I'm really scared and never done shots before, she showed me how to do it, but I'm paranoid I'm going to hit the spine. I don't look forward to this at all. Any advice or anything? Any tips/tricks?

She also gave me silvadene cream to inject into the incision for 2-3 days.

I had to give a RTB injections a few years ago (and I am a nurse, so I do it all the time anyway). You do not need to go super deep, just enough to get into the spot he showed you. You should not be close enough to the spine to be an issue. The other thing is you either need to hold the snake secure yourself, or have someone else hold it, in case it moves when you place the needle. I really is not hard and if the vet was concerned you would hurt the snake, they would not send you home with the stuff to do it.

Malaika, when do you need to give your next injection? I am treating a snake right now, and don't do another injection until tomorrow, but would happily take a video for you (the ones I found on youtube look like garbage - unless somebody else can find a good one to post here). If you'd like, I can also PM you my phone # to walk you through it if it would help in any way.

Also.. was specifically are you being asked to do with the silvadene cream? (as in, what does your vet's instructions state on the medicine)

I have to do a shot every day for 10 days the silva dense cream I'm supposed to inject directly into the cut she made for 2-3 days making sure it doesn't get in his eye. The cut is just before his eye. The vet tech told me to do the shot just to the side of the spine.

Injecting silvadene cream ? it is a topical??! This is new to me.

I have always done injections at the edge of the keel scales into the supracostalis group. either way there are both large muscle groups. The needle is in line with the animal it is really at a low angle under the skin in the muscle just. Not deep!

I would actually call the vet and confirm that they met inject or spread on the incision.

She sent me home with instructions. It is in a syringe with a blunt edge... not meant for shots just mean for putting it into the open wound and injecting it there. Instructions say "insert syringe into pocket (where infection was) and fill pocket with cream until pocket is full. Repeat daily for 2-3 days."

Ok that sounds better it sounded like an injection under the skin. It is still topical SS cream is a great product I always keep some on hand.
