Cage debate

Trying to plan ahead.
Within the next year I'm going to need new cages for my Carpets and Boas.

I want PVC. I have a couple of boaphile cages for my BCIs and pretty happy with them. With that said, I'm not happy with his service and wait times.
I spent a couple of thousand with him and still can't answer an email. Whatever, that's another thread.

So I have been looking at Animal Plastics. I don't mind putting them together and they will save me money.

I'm hoping you guys can help me. I'm looking for detailed photos of the cage. They talk about Vents in the back but I can't find any photos of them.
I would also like some photos of the shelf and lights installed.

How does the bottom edge look after you seal it?

Pros and cons?

These people in the caging business need to find a photographer to work with :)

Serpent Merchant posted an excellent thread with photos of AP caging. Do a search here. I was just looking at his setup and want an AP myself.

I might have missed it but I didn't see any of the vents.

OK, I'll go back and check, but I thought he had all of the shots from all sides. If not PM him as he gets back to you fast and has a lot of great info.

Damn I feel like an idiot. I was looking for something ugly when i read that last night and didnt even notice those. That's a plus for AP.

I have 2 AP enclosures and couldn't be happier. The "vents" are simply a few slits cut diagonally into the back and side panels of the cage, in the corners. They hold humidity rediculously well and are easy to put together and to clean. Plus, their customer service is excellent...and they answer all emails quickly and thoroughly.

I agree. I've had a t8 for about a month and will getting either another t8 or t10 soon.

I guess with shipping, boaphile is cheaper on the 48x24x18 size.

Boaphile 48x24x18 $379 free shipping
AP 48x24x18 t11 $330 + shipping

But the t10 48x24x15 is only $225

Can anyone add to the con list?

I can live with a 3" difference.

I've looked at the Boaphiles and I just can't spring for the 422D after setting it up with the extras. If you set up the AP with light and flexwatt and shipping you still end up less if you do the same with the Boaphile.

Proline has the 48 X 24 X 18 for $285 shipped. From what I've been told the AP and Proline cages clean up better and retain a lot less waste/staining odor over the years. The Proline cages apparently have ZERO retention due to the type of plastic used.

Pro's and cons certainly are a personal matter much like Ford Vs Chevy, but I think the ease of putting together the Proline and the AP and the added size (low to high), I prefer them over say a Boaphile 421D at 11.5". I'm sure there are a lot of people who swear by Boaphile cages which is why I'm only stating my own opinion from things I've learned here and other sites.

I like the glass, sliding doors like the AP has.

I've gotten some very good starter advice here and having been turned onto Herpstats for thermostat usage (bought Herp II) and hearing some good things about AP design I figure it may be a smart move. I've already e-mailed AP just to kick around some ideas and they got back to me very fast. The customer service end of things seems pretty good.

I don't think any of the 3 cages makers I've mentioned makes a bad enclosure, so maybe price, and preference of features/size come into play.

But if saving $$ for a bigger cage means 15 mins with a Phillips screw driver and some sealant, I think I'd lean that way.
