Plated tail...

For those of you who do not know, I have a plated lizard with a tail growing about 3 inches straight up into the air. It wasn't a problem at first but it's grown like an inch, I'm trying to figure out what to do. I can either allow it to continue growing, with some possible side effects. Or I could break it off at one of the joints and let it grow right. I'm not sure what the side effects of that would be. I have gauze and disinfectants....

And the herp vet option is pretty much off the table. We have one that's within 45 minutes... And last time he tried to tell me that my male ball python was female, and that males are the larger of the species.

just don't use gauze and disinfectants. You have to get it right if oyu want it to heal right. What would plan on using for this operation?

Their tails break off real easily, I'm assuming with some pressure it'd come off before the curve smoothly.

Someone who actually CALLS himself a HERP vet said male bp's grow larger than the females??? Wow.....yeah, I'd stear clear of that guy!

Good luck with that tail. I wouldn't have the nerve to do it myself!

you acutally want to break your lizards tail off? Have you lost your mind? Not only will this stress the lizard out like crazy, but most lizards have a pre-determined break point, meaning the whole tail could come along with it. You'd better leave it alone.

It does help me spot it hiding in the bedding, and at the moment it's only 3 inches. I'll try and find a vet somewhere if it gets worse.
