Help with the age of my Bp?

Hi i have recently been given a male Bp. I am wondering if any one could roughly tell me the age of him.

Uh... any more info on him? Pics? Length, weight, clues from the previous owner, cup of dentures on his nightstand?

In all seriousness though, I'm not sure if it's possible to pinpoint the age of a mature ball python. They reach their adult weight quickly (2-3yrs) and after that, they can live for a loooong time. Anyone else have any tips?

I don't know of any way to tell without a hatch date.

Cut him in half and count the rings? ( I kid...)

In all seriousness, ball python growth rates will vary by the individual snake as well as the care and feeding schedule. As the previous poster said, if fed properly a ball python will grow quickly for the first two to three years, at which point the growth rate slows down to almost none. My females are generally reaching 1000 grams around a year old being fed appropriate sized prey every 7-10 days.

If the snake was underfed while young, it may not have reached the full growth potential by age 3. A perfect example are some snakes that I took in about a year ago. They were all at least three years old, but were fed very infrequently and were generally just not taken care of. I had several 3+ year old snakes that came to me under 300 grams. I have been taking care of them for the past year and they're all putting on weight nicely, up to 800+ each at this point.

As was said before, we really can't even begin to guess at an age without a lot more information. Where did you get the snake? How long had the previous owner had him? Where did THEY get the snake, and at what age?

Can you get a picture of the snake with something else in the pic for size reference?

There are ways to estimate but you can never tell for sure. We need more information such as:

-Length
-Weight
-Pictures (very important)

If they are 2000+ grams it gets almost impossible to tell. BP's will usually be fully fully finished growing by around 5 years, and its impossible to tell after that

Hi all that have given me advice. I have measured the snake its just over two ft long. The person i got it from said he is about 18 months old t. He had to get rid because female he has got was stressing it out and he wasn't eating to be honest i really don't think the guy was completely honest about the snake. I am a complete novice this is my first even snake so please feel free to give me any advice you may think i need. I am constantly reading up on how to care for my Bp.
