Water Bowl Wrapping Question

My albino female is approximately 1325 grams. I had intentions of breeding her this year, but about 2 months ago she suddenly stopped eating. She broke her fast last week and ate a rat for me on 10/28. She refused again last night. When I checked on her this morning, she was wrapped around her water bowl....inside of her RBI hide. I know this behavior has been seen in females who are gravid, but I have not had a male in her tub at all. I double checked all of her temps to make sure it wasn't too hot in the tub....90 degrees on the warm side, 80 on the cool side. Plus...she wasn't positioned to either end of the tub....she was right in the middle.

Anyone have any ideas?????

Stop overanalyzing - sometimes they just feel like wrapping. :) How old is she?

They do not need males introduced to bowl wrap, I assume you have males in the same room :)

Females that are gravid rarely ever bowl wrap, that is a building behavior.
Once gravid they seek heat, ALOT

She is 2 years old. And you're right....I am probably overanalyzing, but it struck me as a funny behavior since she never did it before.

So what you are saying is that even though she is only 1325 grams, she could be experiencing "breeding behaviors" simply because of the pheromones in the room?

At this point, it would not be worth the risk to introduce my male to her....correct? I assume that I should wait until she is up to size.

I was always under the impression that 1500g was the "magical" weight and that breeding a female under that weight could be detrimental to her health....?

There is no "magic" number... They don't go looking for a scale in the wild to see if they're big enough to breed. I've heard of some people breeding females at 1000 grams if they're sexually mature. It sounds to me like she's ready. I'd probably go for it if it were me... :gj:

Nope, that's a weight people like to begin to pair their snakes, me too if I can get them there.
But I will not miss a season because of a few hundred grams of weight, weight that they almost always gain during breeding anyways.
Do they produce more eggs, and recover from dropping eggs better?
Sure probably, but there is no health concern from beginning to pair at that weight, none that I've seen in years of breeding.
